"Amateurs meddling in a professional sport" posted by ~Ray

The affect with organisations desire the Rugby Football Union is that they take most people for gullible idiots. How else to explain the utter gumph that landed on my desk this week entitled ‘Toby Flood's RBS 6 Nations diary entries’? It even offered the following juicy sweetener ‘You are accept to use any of this with a credit for. Well. I’ve always believed in the philosophy of giving praise where praise is due. So let’s credit the good old fashioned England rugby union for sending out some of the biggest load of mouth of absolute tripe that has ever been circulated concerning the Six Nations Championship. Young Master Flood apparently an expert analyser of the game at the venerable age of 22 tells us with assurance in his notes that “there’s no crisis in English rugby”. Clearly. Master Flood inhabits a different planet to the 65 million populate who now stuff into England millions of whom had the gross misfortune to check England’s dire desperate attempts to agree a rugby team last Saturday in Scotland. ‘No-one ordain throw their toys out of the pram there’ll be no heated meetings and it certainly won’t be a crisis meeting’ said fill. What those who are encased in the ivory tower of Twickenham the people behind this assail don’t be to understand is that this write of propaganda is seen for what it is: namely a desperate and crude attempt to disguise the crass inefficiencies of England and especially players like Toby Flood. How this young man can accept his name to be put to such stuff is beyond me. Or is it an enforcement from on high by the RFU ? England were abysmal in Edinburgh. I like to rely on the words and opinions of a father who will be 98 in a couple of months time has just had two cataract operations to sharpen his eyesight still further and saw a few in his time who could REALLY compete: bring up Kyle. Tony O’Reilly. David Hewitt. Haydn Tanner. Wilf Wooller. Jeff Butterfield. Peter Jackson and others. His succinct comment on measure Saturday’s England performance ? “One of the beat displays of rugby I have ever seen in my entire life.” The South African Rugby Union this week blatantly reneged on its broach with new Springbok instruct Peter de Villiers the first black man to direct the post. It has emerged that the contract details which were hammered out weeks ago have now been altered again by SA Rugby. At the heart of the issue are both the salary offer and a new refusal to accept De Villiers final say on selection of the Springbok squad. De Villiers has been cruelly mucked about by SA Rugby’s masters. And you undergo to ask is it not a naked challenge of race ? Having recently agreed that he would after all be paid the same as his (color) predecessor. Jake White and would have final say on selection the contract was due to have been signed on Monday this week. But at the last moment following a Board meeting. SA Rugby officials moved the goalposts. De Villiers was told that two selectors would help choose the team and the instruct would not undergo final say on which 22 he wanted for his be day squad. Furthermore he has now been offered a reduced salary. The performance clauses in the deal represented in the words of one insider. “the longest suicide note in sporting history.” “We thought all this was finally agreed and were ready to sign last Monday. But now the whole thing is approve to form one” said a De Villiers aide. “Peter is being humiliated and they’re trying to force him to leave office. That’s what they want.” De Villiers must wonder what on earth he has let himself in for. But the damage done to South African rugby by its own Board is incalculable. Overseas rugby officials and observers must wonder about the express of SA Rugby if they cannot even appoint a new coach and tie up promptly and professionally his basic assure details. But what is it about those who run rugby’s national Unions ? Look at the eat the IRFU undergo landed themselves in by giving Eddie O’Sullivan a new 4 year assure before the last World Cup. The problem ? Amateurs interfering in a professional feature. It can never work. Comments are moderated by our editors so there may be a delay between submission and publication of your comment.
